What is your shop’s name and theme?

The name of our shop is Designer Shop. We are two good friends who decided to open Designer Shop. At the moment our shop is a general shop with about 10 selected categories, no particular theme is decided for the whole shop, but rather each category has its own theme.

When did you open your shop?

We opened it in October, 2006.

Where are you located?
We live in Oslo , Norway

Tell us about your shop.

As long as I can remember (Luis), I have always loved art, painting, drawing, illustration and graphic design.

When I saw a t-shirt shop on the net I thought it was a great idea if I could be able to put my designs on t-shirts and other products. Thanks to Cafepress this dream and idea came true.

I discussed this idea with my friend Kjell and then decided to give it a shot.

We like to design artwork with a meaning or message to other people. We have a Nature & environmental section, for example. Taking care of the environment is one important message we would like to spread out.  One of our first goals is to increase this section, make it bigger and then, maybe turn it into a new niche shop for environmental issues.  Right now we don’t have that many designs but with a fulltime job, the time left to work with our shop is quite limited. But we try to keep it updated constantly and we love being shopkeepers and being able to do what we like most in our free time.

How did you decide on a shop name?

It was very hard to come up with a name because almost every name we thought of was already taken.

But then we came up with “Designershop” because we thought that reflected what it was all about. We are the designers designing a unique product for those who are interested in them. It was kind of an easy, pretty name to remember as well.

What inspires your designs?

We take our inspiration from several sources like environmental issues, comics, humor, irony even the zodiac signs. Urban life too and even very stupid ideas like missing your floppy disc.  Everybody knows floppy discs are something from the past like the dinosaurs were, but it creates nice associations and sentences which can be interpreted in several ways.  But first of all we would like to give positive or critical messages about the world around us.

Do you own any other shops or sites that you would like to share?

Yes absolutely. Right now Kjell is working on this new site www.t-shirt-sayings.com  it is set up based on a script and is a Designershop spin off site. But with this site we will add more content, have articles, videos, and comments about related themes in the shop about us and our work. We would like to add more witty phrases here than in Designer Shop. It is a project on the go! J

What are your future plans?

We would love to further even more our shop and make it as professional as possible.  We like receiving positive comments on how we can improve and offer better designs.  So we are always open for suggestions from our visitors. The main goal is to create a very nice shop where people come and visit once and again because it is good quality for the money.  And of course, we want to make lots of money, but only time will tell if that’s possible.  We have not been so lucky or successful like other shopkeepers in monetary terms, but we keep our heads up and keep on going! This interview is a step forward in that direction, thank you very much for your support and to those who read this interview, take the time to explore our shop and may be you will like it.

Sincerely,

Luis and Kjell from the the land of fjords: Norway ! J

The Hot Tees

What is your shop’s name and theme? My shop is The Hot Tees- every hottie needs a hot tee!

When did you open your shop? I started designing and organizing my shop in June 2006, but didn’t officially open for business until July.

Where are you located? The deep south.

Tell us about your shop. My shop is all about the humor! If my family or friends utter a cute phrase, it will probably wind up in a design. The Hot Tees is also the current home for Manila Lions products.

How did you decide on a shop name? I was asking my son to help me come up with a great name for a shop that sells hot tees. The minute I said the words “hot tees” out loud, I realized that it sounded like the word “hotties” and felt that I had hit paydirt. I immediately googled a few variations and found that http://www.thehottees.com was an open domain. I snatched it up immediately.

What inspires your designs? Just the world around me in general. I carry a design journal with me at all times now. If I find something amusing, I jot it down. I think I’m beginning to drive my friends nuts.

Do you own any other sites? Yes! Although I started with The Hot Tees, I quickly found that I was having the time of my life. Everything that I wanted to write/blog/design for didn’t fit with my first shop, so I began opening other sites.  I have about 25 domains all together, including Occasions For You, 1st Birthday, Bath and Bedtime, The MaterniTees, and Chic Country. And of course, you’re already here at Top Tee Shirts, which is also mine!

What are your future plans?  I’m actually a teacher, so I have the entire summer to play with my sites. I plan to expand them all and have some great content up before school starts this fall.
